Volunteer Opportunities
Parents: How to Volunteer

The Academy of Music needs your help in every way possible to keep the magnet running efficiently. There are various way you can help.

SDM (Shared Decision Making) You can run for the SDM Council. This committee comprised of parents and teachers which makes decisions regarding the Academy’s budget, calendar and policies. SDM meets once a month at a time to be determined by the committee. This year’s election will be held on Back to School Night, Oct. 1, 2009 from 6-8.

Booster Club You can join the Booster Club which is staffed by parents and family members of currently enrolled students. The Booster Club is the primary non-profit group at Hamilton and they provide financial and volunteer support for the entire school complex.

Friends of Musical Theater If you are a music theater lover or your child is involved in the program, you can join this non-for profit groups which raises funds for the musical. If interested, contact Gail Chorna at gchorna@sbcglobal.net.

Volunteer in the Academy Office: We need help filing, answering phones and with special events and mailings. If you are interested contact Carol Turley at cturley@aol.com.

Volunteer at Performances: You can help with concessions, the merchandising tables, with programs and occasionally organizing performance groups.

Share your Expertise: There are various ways you can lend your knowledge and expertise to help our students. Here are some ways:

Performers and Musicians: You might consider teaching a master class for our New Master Class Series.

Grant Writers: Share your knowledge, give us some advice. In this year of catastrophic budget cuts we need to look beyond traditional school budgets.
Designers and Tech: Are you a costume, makeup, prop or set designer? Are you a stage manager or a union techie? Come talk to our students about those professions.

Marketing, Publicity, Producers: Tell our students about the behind the scenes work. Many of our students are interested in pursuing these fields.
