Finding My Fulfillment in Teaching

When I decided to become a teacher what I was looking for was the opportunity to teach at a Performing Arts Magnet School. That was my goal. I wanted to teach the student that I was. I wanted to teach students who were enthusiastic about learning and passionate about their crafts. I have found that in the Academy of Music at Hamilton. I love the interaction with the students. I am fortunate to teach both academic and arts classes. I love that I am able to relate the arts in my academic classes. I feel that it helps to engage the students more in their quest toward pursuing all of their learning goals.

I have also been very fortunate to serve as the production manager for the dramas and the musicals this year and to serve as an associate producer on the spring musical, Les Miserables. This has been a wonderfully collaborative experience among the faculty and with the students. To produce the show, I have been able to use all of my background experience in theatre and finance. I hope in the future to be able to share this knowledge and to offer the opportunity to our students to participate in the producing process. It is exciting to begin at the beginning and watch a production develop throughout and then be fully realized on stage.

This has been a great year for me. I look forward to many more!!
