Piano 1 - Beginning Piano
An introductory course in basic piano skills, music reading and theory comprehension; no experience necessary.
Piano 3
Continuation of Piano 1 or Piano 2 with additional emphasis on technique, theory and sight-reading.
Piano 5 - Intermediate Piano 2nd Year
Repertoire experience for the maturing piano student; literature includes Bach inventions and partitas, and smaller piano works of Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy, Mozart and Haydn; emphasis on sight-reading and technique;Piano 5 is a performance lass; students are required to perform at one on-campus recital each semester; other performance opportunities are provided.
Piano 7A - Master Class
Solo Repertoire: continues the study of solo repertoire; includes pieces by Schumann, Brahms, Liszt and Rachmaninoff; a minimum of one on-campus recital or concert each semester required; performance request must be approved by the instructor.
Contemporary Keyboard Styles - Level 4,5
Emphasizes commercial skills including ear training, playing in a variety of styles such as Broadway, jazz, blues, pop and rock; improvising, reading chord charts, playing in all keys, transposing, keyboard harmony, and reading sheet music.
Piano 2 - Beginning Piano for Music Readers
Introductory course in basic piano skills, music reading and theory comprehension. Piano 2 moves considerably faster than piano 1.
Piano 4 - Intermediate Piano 1st Year
Emphasis on building technique and repertoire. Literature include Clementi, Heller, J.S. Bach and the easier compositions of Kabalevsky, Mozart and Chopin.
Piano 6 - Advanced Piano
Piano 7B - Master Class
Concerti: history and performance of piano concerti, both as a soloist and as an accompanying pianist (when working with two-piano arrangements); one complete Concerto must be learned during the school year in order to be considered for a second year of Concerto class; a minimum of one on-campus recital or concert each semester required; performance request must be approved by the instructor.
