1991 Hamilton alumnus John Daversa won 3 Grammy Awards 2019 including Best Large Ensemble Jazz Album for his project ‘American Dreamers’. The album is beautifully unique as John used 53 musicians on the recording, all of whom are DACA recipients. Mr. Daversa was a student of AMPA founder Sid Lasaine and is currently the Head of Jazz Studies at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
Last summer, students participated in the Cheng Du Festival in China. The decorated Jazz department has made appearances at the Next Generation Monterey Jazz Festival, performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, opened for Sonny Rollins, played the RedCat Theater downtown, as well as numerous dates at Disney Concert Hall.
